First, look at your circumstances with a fresh attitude and perspective. Think of this time as an opportunity to accomplish things that you didn’t get a chance to do earlier. Turn waiting into productive, pleasant activity. Even if long lines drive you crazy, arriving at the airport early can reduce the time it takes to register, check baggage, clear security, and deal with other routine annoyances.

Get close to your gate. These days airport concourses have a lot of cafes and bars where you can spend time enjoying a snack with coffee, tea, or other beverages. You can also go shopping for souvenirs, or clothes emblazoned with local emblems, or other items you’ll need during your travels. If you are a shopaholic, be sure to set an alarm so you don’t forget about your boarding time.

If you prefer a calmer atmosphere, you can just take a seat in the waiting area and enjoy a book that you haven’t had time to read before, or watch a film, or play games on your tablet or laptop, or connect to the Wi-Fi that is usually available for free in airports. For those who didn’t bring devices – buy some books, magazines, or newspapers that are sold in airport bookstores.

If you are a communicative person, you could find someone else waiting for the same flight and strike up a conversation. You might make a new friend or just pleasantly pass time together, but these incidental acquaintances sometimes come in handy in the future. Perhaps this person has the same interests as you, or maybe they work in the same field and even plan to attend the event you are traveling to or to visit the same country. You never know – the world gets smaller every day.

If you are traveling for business purposes, use the time at the airport wisely. You can access Wi-Fi and do some work, call business associates, and even hold an online conference via Skype. In any case, stay calm and positive, and you will definitely spend your waiting time wisely.
